Swindon St George will be led into the new Rugby League season by a major new signing – Scorcher the Dragon.

Scorcher will be regularly appearing at St George open age men’s side games, along with the club’s Wheelchair and Masters matches and Junior events.

He will also be busy promoting the club and the sport of Rugby League around the town throughout the coming season.

And what a season it promises to be for the various sections of the club. The open age side, sponsored by Powerwash Contractors Ltd, will be debuting in the Midland Premier League this year and is currently building towards the first fixture at local rivals Oxford on 11 May.

Meanwhile the over 35s ‘Masters of Mayhem’ are less than two weeks away from their season opening visit to Cardiff Blue Dragons on 9 March, the same date that the Wheelchair RL squad make their first outing at New College, start time for both encounters being 2.30pm.

Club chairman Warren Huggins is excited by the prospect, saying ‘This will be a big step forward for Rugby League in the area. With new, upgraded facilities for all our sections, Men’s, Masters and Juniors at the Swindon RFC ground on Greenbridge Road, and the Wheelchair side at New College, plus the sponsorship, along with a big injection of enthusiasm, from our friends at Powerwash Contractors, based at Kembrey, the short- and long-term future is looking brighter than ever.’
