Wootton Bassett Arts Festival 2011

15th March 2011 by Roger Ogle

Has all the excitement of the OSCARS sparked a desire to get into film? Well why not have a go yourself? The Wootton Bassett Arts Festival is introducing a NEW FILM Class in 2011 so this could be your chance to kick-off your career.

Making your own short film has become accessible to most these days now that many digital cameras have a video capability as well as a large number of mobile phones. All you have to do is come up with a story, film it, post it to YouTube© and provide a hyperlink to your film on the entry form.

There will be three categories to enter in the Festival on the 12 and 13 November: 11 years and under (2 mins max), 12 to 16 years (4 mins max) and 17 years and over (6 mins max).

The Wootton Bassett Arts Festival is thrilled to announce that the entries will be judged by Mark Kenna and Alex Hudd, owners of Wootton Bassett based Dreambase Studios which specialises in bespoke sound for independent films and digital media. Mark and Alex both have extensive experience in the film industry having worked on hundreds of films between them.

“Dreambase Studios are very proud to sponsor this new category in the Wootton Bassett Art Festival, commented Alex Hudd.” “The rise of YouTube and Vimeo, amongst others, coupled with advances in technology have made film making much more accessible, and marketable to the general public. It's very exciting for the Wootton Bassett Arts Festival to be including a short film competition as part of the arts entries and hopefully will encourage potential film makers in this area to get out there and make a short film,” he added.

As adjudicators for the Wootton Bassett Arts Festival’s FILM Class, Alex and Mark will offer encouragement and sound advice to our budding young film makers.

So stop dreaming about your career in the movies and actually make a start today and in a few years time, you never know, it could be you walking down that red carpet and making an acceptance speech!
