The Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials weekend – taking place on Friday 19 & Saturday 20 April – kick starts the flat season at Newbury Racecourse.

The two-day meeting offers the first chance to see some of the early flat turf group races and always unveils exciting prospects for the year ahead.

There will be a host of entertainment as well as food and drink on offer, away from the racing action, including the ever-popular Craft Beer Festival.

Newbury Racecourse are also a charity partner of Greatwood Charity, who use former racehorses to educate disadvantaged children and young adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN). All racegoers on Saturday will be able to get up close with a retired racehorse from Greatwood called Maherlvous and his Shetland Pony friend Gladys.

For the racing enthusiasts, there is high class racing featuring three Group 3 races on Saturday, including The Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes (The John Porter Stakes), The Dubai Duty Free Stakes (The Fred Darling Stakes) and The Watership Down Stud Too Darn Hot Greenham Stakes.

Many runners will be making their seasonal reappearance ahead of lofty targets later in the year in these well supported Classic trials. Saturday is also host to the ever competitive and newly sponsored OLBG Spring Cup Handicap Stakes.

The Craft Beer Festival, open from 11.30am in the Grandstand on both Friday and Saturday, features over 30 real ale and ciders to try from a range of local breweries. All those aged over 18 attending Newbury Racecourse over the weekend are granted free admission to the beer festival with no extra ticket required!

Aside from the beer festival, course expert and former jockey David Crosse will be on hand to provide exclusive insight through parade ring tours, trips to the start and jockey talks.  This exclusive experience is not to be missed and complimentary to all racegoers.

Located within the Grandstand Enclosure will be the Dubai Duty Free marquee. Racegoers can sample complimentary Arabic coffee and dates and take a spin on the wheel of fortune with a host of prizes to be won including race day tickets, as well as entry into The Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw with the chance to win US$1million and the Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise draw where racegoers could have the opportunity to win a luxury car.

Live acoustic music will be playing in the Craft Beer Tent throughout Friday and Saturday and following the conclusion of racing on Saturday, the popular Shadow Monkeys will be on hand to continue the celebrations and round off a memorable flat season opener at Newbury.

Tickets for the racing action – with tickets granting free admission to the on-site Beer Festival – are available via newburyracecourse.co.uk while all under 18s go free.
