Swindon Archive News Walk in the woods for Brandon
Sponsored walk at Shaw Forest Country Park in aid of the Brandon Humphries Walk for Life appeal Saturday 10 July, 10am - 12noon Brandon Humphries is a 4 year old living in West Swindon who cannot walk unaided because of cerebral palsy. But after a month's intensive conductive education at the world famous Peto Institute in Hungary during May, Brandon was able to take a few steps. This cost his parents £3,000. The people of Swindon were very generous with donations to help them, after much publicity in the Evening Advertiser and The Link magazine. But, if Brandon is ever to walk without the aid of sticks, he needs a major operation to rebuild and realign his feet, as well as to stretch the tendons in his legs to give him strength. It's a daunting prospect, but Brandon could walk normally if the procedure is carried out. However his parents need to raise another £8,000 to cover the cost of the operation as well as physiotherapy. They hope Brandon can have the operation in late August or early September. That's why the Swindon Forest Protection Group and The Link magazine are working with the Humphries to organise a sponsored walk around Shaw Forest Country Park. We need to help them raise the money quickly, before the summer holidays start. Will you take part by spreading the word and encouraging the families you're in contact with to raise some sponsorship and come along between 10am and 12 noon on 10 July? There will also a competition for children. We would like them to make a mobile of a forest animal or a bird to bring along on and hang in the woods at Shaw Forest Country Park. The best will win a prize. Spread the word by downloading a poster and also a sponsor form. For more information, call Roger Ogle at The Link magazine on 872282 |
