Stan's still our man
Despite all his hard work Councillor Stan Pajak has narrowly missed out on the national title of Mayor of the Year Award 2003, run by the Co-operative Bank. Councillor Pajak was Swindon Borough Council's Mayor for 2002/2003 and was nominated by his colleagues for his council work. As one of the short-listed ten, Stan was chosen from nearly 100 Mayors entered by local authorities. He was piped at the post by the winner, Cllr Elaine Baker from Portsmouth Council. The runners up were from Bath, Merton, Berwick Up Tweed and Oldham. David Dickman, Head of Co-operative and Sector Development said, "we wish Councillor Pajak luck in the future and hope that he will continue his good work in Swindon, the shortlisted finalists deserve an award for the hard work they put in their term as Mayor." Chief Executive of Swindon Borough Council, Simon Birch said: "it is a credit to Stan's character and his hard work that he did so well in this competition, he thoroughly deserves this praise and recognition. We are all very proud of him and his achievements".
During his time as Mayor, Councillor Pajak took part in vast array of activities ranging from dying his hair to taking part in an overnight moonwalk marathon walk through London with Swindon Twin Peaks team, in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. He completed over 500 civic engagements during his year in office. |
