Darren Jesson from North Swindon is a man with a mission.
On 25 and 26 October he will swim 21 miles in the David Lloyd pool to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Darren is no stranger to extreme challenges in an urban setting. Having been a semi-professional rugby player in his younger days, last year the manager of the Designer Outlet M&S store decided at short notice to cycle a Tour de France stage in his shop window and raised £1,500.
This time Darren has been doing serious training in the pool and on the treadmill and given himself more time to beat his fundraising total. “I’ve also been training with the Swindon Tigersharks adult team who have been really pushing me,” he said.
Breakthrough branch chairman Shirley Garman, said, “it is fantastic that he’s committing himself again this year. Everybody knows that the fitter you are the better your chances of not succumbing to cancer; Darren is a setting an example for us all.”
