Eighty youngsters from Swindon will join 7,000 other 11 to 16 years olds from around the country at the grand finals of the Millennium Youth Games from 17 to 20 August in Southampton, sponsored by McArthur Glen.

At the end of June Swindon's sports children put in magnificent performances at the area heats for teams from Wiltshire, Dorset and Swindon and won eleven of the 19 team and individual events.

Teams from Crowdys Hill and Uplands special schools will represent Swindon in competitions for children with disabilities in football and swimming. Gladys Barr, organiser of the heat held in Swindon, said, "the weekend was a tremendous success and local children did the town proud."
