Firefighters at Westlea station recently played host to fireman Fiodor Kounits from the Chernobyl in Belorussia.

As one of the last firefighters to survive the disasterous fire at the nuclear power plant over ten years ago, he suffers the effects of radiation and was on a recuperation visit in Westbury where there is a long coonection with Chernobyl.

The Westlea firefighters were pleased to show off their equipment and to hear from Fiodor about his experiences. Speaking through his daughter Natasha, he said, "this equipment is fantastic; I've only seen it on TV."
