Freshbrook PC available to discuss concerns

Beat officer PC Rob Mortimer, is restarting his twice monthly surgeries at Freshbrook community centre as part of the Freshbrook Neighbourhood Safety Team (NeST) initiative.

Launched at the end of October, in response to the Crime and Disorder bill, the NeST works with Freshbrook and Grange Park residents to identify both local safety concerns and effective solutions which will improve the quality of life for all in the community.

A major issue raised by NeST has been the need for more contact with the police and PC Mortimer will be able to discuss crime matters face to face on Monday 8 May, 7pm to 8pm and Thursday 25 May, 10am to 11am.

Other issues raised by NeST:

  • The need to involve young people in community safety issues. Five discussion sessions are to be organised to give them a voice.
  • Graffiti. Swindon Council is to spend £5,000 on graffiti removal and other improvements at Freshbrook village centre.
  • Drugs - see right for action

NeST is interested in hearing of crime and safety concerns in Freshbrook and Grange Park. If you/your group/organisation wish to attend a meeting, contact Miriam Minty, Crime and Disorder Co-ordinator on 466510.

Drugs talk for parents

At a recent Neighbourhood Safety Team (NeST) meeting in Freshbrook, concerns about drugs misuse were discussed. As a result Druglink is holding a special drop in session for parents and other people who may be concerned about drugs misuse.

It takes place on Wednesday 17 May, 7pm to 8.30pm at Freshbrook Community Centre. It is an opportunity to find out more about drugs and their affects, and what parents might look out for if they are concerned about their children.
