Disco of darkness for Divali

Divali, the Hindu and Sikh Festival of Light at the end of October, is going to be celebrated by a new Asian disco, Sounds of Darkness.

Launched by Gurm Mudhar, 27, from the Grange Park area of Swindon at private functions in June, the Diwali disco at Swindon Town's County Ground Winners Lounge on 30 October, will the first time he goes public with the Bhangara beat.

"I've been thinking about setting up a disco for a long time," said Gurm. "I've attended Bhangara gigs for many years, but now that the music is so popular in the mainstream dance scene, I decided it was time to go for it."

He said that a group of friends suggested the name for his disco and Gurm has turned his nickname into his stage persona. From now on he is DJ Gamma.

Gurm plays a wide range of music, depending on his audience. "I'm into R'n'B, Hip Hop and Soul, as well as Bhangara. I'll play a programme which the customers want to hear. I also have a good selection of Bollywood dance music which goes down really well."

Up to now, Bhangara discos have had to be brought in from Birmingham or London, but now Gurm is available to take bookings for parties, weddings and cultural events.

Call (01793) 875299 to book DJ Gamma for a lively night of Bhangara, Bollywood and Western dance and chart music.
