Buildings receive awards for their cutting edge architecture or perhaps their eco-credentials, but The Link is putting forward a different category: the best smelling building in Swindon.

After about five years standing empty the Chelsea building on Rivermead Drive now has a new tenant, Aroma Home, which supplies large retailers such as John Lewis, Debenhams and Tesco with gifts using pure essential oils ‘to bring a sense of well being to everyone’s life.’

Walk or cycle behind the old Renault building and you’re sure to catch a strong smell of lavender wafting down the road. Not only are Aroma Home staff relaxed and easy going, the company are doing a service to the community by enhancing the air quality on the Rivermead Industrial Estate.

The company has relocated from Gloucester to larger premises in West Swindon and employs some 80 people assembling products like microwaveable wheat bags, hand, foot and welly warmers, cushions, wardrobe fresheners, novelty slippers for children, screen wipes and candles.

Founder Mike Foster said that all Aroma Home’s products comply with British and European safety standards. They use only the best quality wheat grain inside the microwaveable products and pure essential oils and not fragrances.

As important, nearly all the products are assembled or produced in Britain, at the Chelsea building.
