Hunt for Swindon's unsung heroes closing date 26 February

Do you know somebody who does something special for Swindon, whether it be on a neighbourhood, town wide or national scale?

The hunt is on for the people who put in the effort to make Swindon a better place because of their unsung commitment to others and their willingness to do that little bit extra. He or she could be a:

• A child or adult who has displayed remarkable courage;
• A gutsy community champion who has improved a neighbourhood;
• A tireless charity fund-raiser or campaigner;
• A devoted carer;
• An inspiring teacher;
• An exemplary, young person who should be recognised
as a role model;
• A volunteer selfless in giving their time;
• A neighbour who is always there, fair weather or foul;
• Someone who has excelled in sport or given unselfish service to their club.

At the launch of The Pride of Swindon 2010 awards in December Swindon Mayor coun. David Wren said, “the awards recognise the lengths people go to make a difference in their community. They are the unsung heros amongst us and I’m looking forward to reading the nominations.”

The current Pride of Swindon award launched last year by former Mayor coun Steve Wakefield attracted 46 nominations. This year coun Wren hopes to receive 60 or 70 by the closing date of 26 February. Nominees will be invited to a ceremony in April when the winners will be announced.

To nominate somebody (who must live or work within Swindon borough), write up to 250 words about the person you wish to nominate and why he or she should be considered for the award.

Send your nomination with the person's contact details and also yours by 26 February to: Pride of Swindon Awards, The Mayor’s Office, Civic Offices, Euclid Street, Swindon SN1 2JH.
