DVD marks 40th anniversary of the moonwalk

Wiltshire’s pre-historic Stonehenge circle features in a never seen NASA documentary - Moonwalk One - The Director’s Cut - made in 1969 to mark the Apollo 11 space mission which took humans to the moon forty years ago on 20 July.

Director Theo Kamecke said he was commissioned to explore the connections between earth, its moon and the Apollo 11 space mission. “NASA asked me to make a ‘time capsule’ of an event that I saw as a landmark in human history. I tried to capture the mood and feelings on earth as we left it, not just the technological achievement. I wanted to make it like a tale told beside a campfire of that time when we first walked on another world.”

The film puts man first walking on the moon firmly in a social context, placing the frontier-challenging science and technology against the backdrop of 1960’s pop culture, with an evocative soundtrack which captures the era and the mysteries of going beyond the boundaries of earth.

At SwindonLink’s request the distributors Sister PR are sending copies to Greendown, Bradon Forest, Nova Hreod and Isambard secondary schools to use within the curriculum and in special projects.

Moonwalk One - The Director’s Cut is available from www.amazon.co.uk at £19.99 or from 0845 053 0323.
