Discover Wiltshire's great outdoors on the Sarsens Trail
Are the treadmill and exercise bike becoming a chore? Celebrate the coming of spring with some outdoor legwork in readiness for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s unique Sarsen Trail and Neolithic Marathon on Sunday 2 May.
Walk, run, or cycle this historic 26-mile fundraiser through the beautiful landscape of Wiltshire, starting at Avebury, along the Vale of Pewsey, across Salisbury Plain, and ending at Stonehenge.
“This will be the 23rd year of the Sarsen Trail and the first year of the seven-mile walk - a good option for young families,” said organiser Derek Gard, of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
“Whatever people choose to do, it really is a fantastic day, catering for all levels of fitness. You’re out in the fresh air, taking in magnificent scenery, and raising money for charity at the same time. We get groups coming back year-after-year - some of them in fancy dress, which adds to the sense of fun.”
The new, shorter walk, from Avebury to All Cannings, costs £12 per adult, £6 per child, or £30 for a family group.
The full 26-mile walk will cost early birds: £20 adults, £4.50 children, £42 families. After 19 March adults will pay £25, children £6 and families £50.
Runners, aged 18-plus, can opt for the full, or half, marathon, which both finish at Stonehenge. Before 19 March: Half Marathon £20, Marathon £25. Later entrants: £25 Half Marathon, £30 Marathon.
Cyclists follow a separate 15-mile, rough terrain course to Stonehenge. Entry: £12 adults, £6 children, £30 family group.
Entry forms and more details are available online at: www.wiltshirewildlife.org or from Wildlife Wildlife Trust’s headquarters at Elm Tree Court, Long Street, Devizes, or ring the Trust on 01380 725670.
Dog lovers who wish to run with their canine companions can cover either six or 21 kilometres. More details at: www.cani-cross.co.uk
The final closing date for all entries is Monday 19 April.
