A newspaper to stimulate ideas and cultivate cultural thoughts
The Swindon Hooter, a four-page newspaper reflecting on the Think: Swindon in 2009, is now available from Swindon Cultural Partnership (SCP).
The month-long Think: Swindon season last April brought together over forty local partner organisations, and reached thousands of people through dozens of thought provoking festivals, shows, exhibitions and community gatherings.
At its heart was the Anne Frank and You exhibition, with other highlights including a multi-cultural St. George’s Day pageant - featuring the largest St George’s figure in the world, and a visit by author Jasper Fforde.
Mike Pringle, SCP director, who organised the season, explained, “Think:Swindon was a great success, bringing together different people and provoking Swindon residents to really think. It was also about preparing the ground for the future, a season of discovery, with a view to helping Swindon culture develop further down the line. This will now be a springboard for future partnerships and events.”
Several projects were launched from Think:Swindon such as the Swindon artist’s Open Studios in September and plans for an international film festival in 2010.
Currently, the main priority for the SCP is to develop the Richard Jefferies Museum at Coate Water into a vibrant well visited place on Swindon’s cultural map.
For a printed copy of Swindon Hooter, mail Mike Pringle via www.swindonculture.org or read it digitally at the site.
