Packed Spring and Summer schedule for Avebury visitors

Attractions ranging from art to architecture and archaeology to ancient lore await visitors to Avebury throughout May and June.

The National Trust location promises something for everybody, including:

- Avebury Manor Garden - The garden at Avebury Manor is arranged as a series of 'rooms', each with an individual style. A National Trust spokesperson said: "Sit and relax in the quiet spaces. Completely accessible by wheelchair or mobility scooter."

- Henge and stone circles - Visitors can take guided tours around the largest prehistoric circle of standing stones in the world, with experienced guides to help bring the history of this ancient site to life.

- Alexander Keiller Museum - One of the most important prehistoric archaeological collections in Britain is housed in the museum. People can discover finds from the Avebury landscape spanning thousands of years, including a human skeleton from 5,300 years ago.

- Garden Tours with the Head Gardner - 2 May, 6 June and11 July, 10-11.30pm, £15 per person. People can join the Head Gardner for a tour around Avebury Manor Gardens, and learn about the history, development and horticulture of the individual garden rooms. Includes refreshments in the Café. Booking is essential.

- Landscape Walk: East of Avebury - 23 May, £8 per person. Celebrate National Walking Month with a guided tour starting from the stone circles and walking towards the Ridgeway, passing prehistoric round barrows before returning via West Kennet Avenue. Booking essential. 

- Avebury Trust 10 - 26 May, 23 June, 28 July, free. Enjoy a challenging 10k trail run with stunning views across the wider Avebury landscape. Meet at the Coach House (on Avebury high street, next to the Red Lion pub) at 8:45. The Trust 10 run will begin at 9am. 

- Summer Theatre in the Dovecote - The historic Avebury Dovecote will be transformed into a circus tent where children can see a classic fairy tale performed by a professional actor. Families will be able to join in and take part in the action.

- Build Your Own Obstacle Course - In the farmyard and the garden at Avebury, a range of items will be available for children to design, build and then run round their own obstacle course. Free of charge.

-Glow worm walk - An introductory talk followed by an evening walk around Figsbury Ring in search of fascinating gloworms. Booking essential.

- Summer foraging walk - Discover some of nature’s wild food secrets on a foraging walk in the fields around Avebury. Guided by expert forager Fred Gillam. Booking essential. 

- Flower Arranging Workshop
Learn to make a beautiful summer arrangement in a vintage jug and leave with the skills to recreate your own arrangements. Materials and cream tea included. Booking essential. 

- Sketch like Stuckeley - Families can create their own versions of William Stukeley's drawings of Avebury from 300 years ago. Look out for the easels set up in the stone circle or farmyard. Free.
